News - Chinta Ria…. Mood for Love

Inside the passion for Westfield's new Malaysian Restaurant

"Goh where the Mood takes you"

"Chinta Ria owner Simon Goh will recreate a "100-year-old Malaysian village restaurant" on level six of the shiny new Westfield Sydney. The 40-seat restaurant site is believed to be the one Japanese chef Ryuichi Yoshii looked at before pulling out of a Westfield deal. The winner of last year's MasterChef, Adam Liaw, is rumoured to have considered the site before opting to open a restaurant in Surry Hills later this year. Goh, who had committed to another, cheaper venture at Westfield, says he'll grow his existing brand: "I have Chinta Ria … Temple of Love; this will be Chinta Ria … Mood for Love." Goh lost Short Black with his description of the venture as "the funky monk meets sassy lady" but the rest of the project sounds more straightforward. It will serve Malaysian comfort food, Charles Leong is the consultant sommelier, and Goh has commissioned a film director responsible for Lady Gaga videos to shoot a short film that'll run on a screen when the restaurant opens in September."
